OWI Symposium

​In March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically impacted higher education and forced many instructors to teach online for the first time with little or no training and very few resources. In the summer of 2020, we decided that we wanted to help. We wanted expand our open access resources by hosting our first ever virtual online writing instruction symposium. We wanted to offer a conference style space that would encourage and inspire instructors across the globe to implement small innovative practices into their online writing courses.

Not knowing what to expect, we reached out to our friends and colleagues whose research focused on OWI and we were overwhelmed by their response and willingness to help. We had enough people willing to donate their time to our symposium that we decided to hold two symposiums, one in August and one in September. The first two symposiums (2020) were so successful that we decided to hold others. We hosted two more in 2021 and then took a break in 2022 and 2023 to work on our edited collections. We are excited to be hosting another one in 2024!
